Texas Hold`em is a form of Poker (meaning the rank of poker hands applies) played with five Community cards (called "the flop" or "the board") placed face up in the center of the table, and two cards held in each player's hand (and hidden from all other players). These cards are often referred to as being "in the pocket" or "pocket" cards.
Texas Hold`em tournements have become much more popular in the last few years with the release of the movie "Rounders"and replay of the World Series of Poker on ESPN2, as well as, the new Celebrity Poker Tournaments on TV. An average poker tournament involving as few as 40 people can take as many as 10 hours from start to finish. A tournament like the "World Series of Poker" takes almost a week.
In the Showbiz form of the "World Series of Poker", since our events usually run in a 3 hour time span we limit the number of hands that players can play. Rather than allowing every player to keep playing until they run out of chips (which is like going bankrupt in "Monopoly" and can take every bit as long). We speed up the pace by placing a hand and/or time limit on each round. So not only do you have to beat the players, you have to beat the clock as well. The first round might last one hour, with a warning at the last 3 hands, then player have to take into consideration if they can make a move before the round ends. Then the top money scorers make it to the "final table" where they have a limited amount of time and hands to make the big win. This extra pressure causes the kind of excitement that the TV Shows provide and still fits in the normal time frame for a casino event. This way you can either have a Hold`em Tournament for your next function, or you can just add one to your function and still let non-poker players enjoy themselves with the high quality Casino Entertainment you have come to know as a Show Biz Productions trademark.
